Located midway between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, Kompong Thom is worthy of a stop in its own right. Its name is drawn from a local legend about a pair of big snakes that lived in a cave – luckily, they seem to have long since left the province! Nowadays, the main drawcard of Kampong Thom is two beautiful and historic temples. While their intricate designs rival many of the Angkor sites, they are far less crowded, so are perfect if you’re craving a little more space to admire Angkor architecture.
