In Myanmar, there are many places which are absolutely worth to visit. The charming town, Yangon, is the commercial city of Myanmar and our trip will start with the visit to Yangon city center. Walking through the streets in downtown and seeing the colonial buildings will give you a wonderful essence of the British era. A visit to grand Shwedagon Pagoda, a glorious spectacular huge golden stupa surrounded by hundreds of small stupas will also make your time worth.
Bago and Kyaik Hti Yo Pagoda (also known as Golden Rock) are one of the special highlights of Myanmar as they are important sacred pilgrimage sites. Golden Rock which is wonderfully balanced and seems to defy gravity will amaze you. Taking the open air truck up to the mountain will also arouse your excitement as it drives along the narrow street of the steep mountain. Seeing the different activities and hearing the prayers of Myanmar Buddhist pilgrims will be a totally different atmosphere from what you always see in your daily life.
Hpa An, the capital of Kayin State is full of natural Limestone caves which house hundreds of Buddhist stupas. Capturing the amazing caves around Hpa An and enjoying the unforgettable sunset at Shwe Yin Myaw Pagoda which is located at the bank of Thanlwin River will be another exciting spot of this trip. Day 1 : Arrival in Yangon and Yangon City Exploration
We start our day of exploring downtown Yangon on foot by visiting the spectacular colonial buildings. Among the buildings we will visit, the Yangon City Hall which is centrally located in the downtown of Yangon and is considered as a fine example of Burmese architecture, featuring a traditional roof. City Hall is close to several important landmarks such as Sule Pagoda, Maha-Bandula Park, the High Court, and the Main Post Office – all impressive colonial-style buildings. We will have lunch at an authentic Myanmar restaurant, and then visit the famous BogyokeAung San Market (also known as Scott Market) with its 2,000 sprawling shops for clothing, gemstones, jewelry, traditional arts, crafts, and souvenirs. And then we will continue to visit Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda with its 66 meters long reclining Buddha – one of the largest in Myanmar. Our day will end at Shwedagon Pagoda, which is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar and surrounded by an array of temples, shrines, and pavilions. Afterward, we return to the hotel to relax.
Day 2 : Yangon - Bago - Golden Rock, overnight
After breakfast at the hotel, we will start driving to Golden Rock. On the way, we will visit World War 2 Cemetery for a photo stop and explore Myanmar handmade pot workshop. Then visit Kya Khat Wine Monastery where over 1000 monks are learning Buddha scripture and we will learn about monastic lives. Then, we will have lunch and drive directly to Kimpun base camp. When we arrive at base camp, here comes an exciting time to take an open-air truck to the top of the mountain. After refreshment at the hotel and we will visit around Golden Rock and enjoy a picturesque sunset. Then we will stay overnight at the KyaikHto Hotel.
Day 3 : Golden Rock - drive to Hpa An and Exploration
After having breakfast at the hotel, we will take the truck down to base camp and drive to Hpa An (about 2 hrs). Our journey starts with sightseeing around Hpa An where mind-boggling green mountains and amazing caves are awaiting. Firstly, we will visit Bayin Nyi Cave where you can see a vast number of Buddha images carved in different shapes and sizes on the cave walls. Plus, you can even take a light bath in the natural hot spring which many locals believe to recover from disease by taking a bath. Then continue to visit Ya Thae Pyan Cave and Kawgoon Cave which is home to thousands of Buddha images of various sizes and shapes in ancient styles, carved out of stone. Then proceed to Sadan Cave, the limestone cave, it is the biggest cave in the area and it will take about 1 hour to visit inside and coming back by a small canoe is really impressive. We can see a natural lake at the end of the cave. Now is the time to take amazing photos of an unforgettable sunset. And then drive back to Hpa an and you can enjoy the sunset at Shwe Yin Myaw Pagoda which is located at the bank of Thanlwin River in Hpa-An. Stay overnight at the Hotel Gabbana in Hpa An.
Day 4 : Walk around villages and enjoy biking in the villages of Hpa An
Today’s adventure is that we will experience the village walk. We will pick you up at your hotel in Hpa An and go excursion by TukTuk (three-wheels motorcycle) on the Main Road. Then in half of the tour, Mountain bikes are ready for you to start a short biking trip to rural Kayin village. The trip is half on the main road and half on the village street and technically easy as mostly the roads are not so rough. On the way, we will stop to listen to the different tribes’ belief at the religious places and to enjoy the fantastic views of mountains and sceneries. A simple picnic lunch is included in a local village. After the lunch, will transfer back to your hotel by a small truck or TukTuk( three-wheel Motor-bike).
Day 5 : Boat trip to Mawlamyine and excursion to Ogre Island (Bilu Kyun)
Today, we will enjoy the boat ride from Hpa An to Mawlamyine. Our driver will transfer us to the jetty and we will take a boat to Mawlamyine which will take about 4 hours. During the boat ride, we can enjoy cool and picturesque scenery. Arrival in Mawlamyine, our driver will pick us up at the jetty and we will have lunch at Mawlamyine. After lunch, we will continue our tour by driving to Ogre Island. When we arrive on the Island; we can have exploration in 2-3 villages to experience local life, small family business, and culture. We will observe the making of traditional handicrafts such as smoking pipes, small toys, walking sticks, rubber bands, and chalkboards. After that, we will transfer back to Mawlamyine and stay overnight at the hotel.
Day 6 : Continue exploring in Mawlamyine
Today, we will ensure that we will venture out again to get some incredible photos. We will drive you to Win Sein Tow Ya, the largest reclining Buddha in the world sizes 30 meters in height and 180 meters in length. Inside it, a Buddha museum exists. Then, we will proceed to Thanbyuzayat that is 34 km from Mawlamyine, to visit an Allied War Memorial Cemetery which commemorates the prisoners of war who lost their lives in constructing the famous “Death Railway across the River Kwai”. After visiting there we will drive back to Kyaikthanlan Pagoda and the nearby monastery which is named after its founder, Sei don Mibaya Kyaung, where we can see the excellent wood carvings which age over 100 years old. Continue to the nearby view point to enjoy beautiful sunset views over the harbor. Stay overnight at the hotel in Mawlamyine.
Note: A visit to Kyauktalone Taung is optional and if the clients wish to go there, it is possible and please be noted that you will have to go up the stairs barefoot to reach the Pagoda on top, it is 300 feet in height with a Buddhist shrine situated on top.
Day 7 : Drive back to Yangon and join departure flight
After breakfast, we will drive back to Yangon and our driver will drop you off at the airport to join your departure flight.
